Millions of Lord Shiva devotees across India are prepared to celebrate the pious occasion of Mahashivratri, the wedding anniversary of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

Devotees stay awake all night, singing hymns and prayers, to seek Lord Shiva’s blessings.

Temples witness long queues of devotees since early morning to offer prayers, flowers and fruits.

People also keep fast on the day. It is believed that women observe fast to ensure a good life for their husbands, and single girls observe a fast in hope of a good life partner.
